Although The
Church of the Wayfarer is and has been a United Methodist
Church for all of its 100 years, we have also been a
"community" church, a good neighbor and participant in the
town activities.
In partnership
with other community agencies and churches we have aided the
homeless thru the Monterey County I-Help program, furnishing
meals and temporary lodging, gasoline and transportation
vouchers, as well as an ongoing series of food bank
contributions.
From the
earliest days of Carmel-by-the-Sea, the doors of the church
building have been open to the community for drama and
musical productions, rehearsal space, special events, for
lectures and civic gatherings. As part of the "downtown"
area of the village, The Church of the Wayfarer has been a
major contributor to the ambience of this special place,
with tourists from all over the world enjoying a respite
from their travels on our benches and in our sanctuary.
One major
tourist attraction is The Master's Garden, originally known
as The Biblical Garden, featuring plants described in the
Bible, but also providing a colorful experience for our
visitors as they relax in this special place.
